M 1

Due to the danger of fraud with #1s, I've created a separate page that discusses this issue.  If you're considering buying a #1, I urge you to review it.

eBay described as M no gum (pictured).  Opened for $1500 and closed with no bids.  Scott values at $4500 (May 00).

eBay described as "used, four margins and a light circular cancel".  Opened for $223 and closed with no bids.  Scott values at $550.  Note that the margins were very thin, making it unclear if the stamp was genuine or a trimmed Scott 2.  (May 00)

eBay described as "used, one and a half margins and a circular cancel".  Opened for $150 and closed with no bids.  Again, the genuineness of this stamp probably constrained bidding at this otherwise low price.

eBay described as "used, tied to piece".  The said it was VF, I'd be more critical and again worry about how tightly it is trimmed.  Opened for $180 and sold at that price (June 00).

eBay used, F/VF, with post pen and postmark cancel.  Opened for $32 and six people bid it up to $155.  An incredible bargain due to it being poorly described and offered for sale in pounds, not dollars (I think).  Scott values at $375 (June 00).

eBay described as Pen and Postmark cancelled, and, lightly hinged, and possible repair in right lower corner.  Opened for $75 and closed with no bids (probably due to the repair and poor quality scan) (July 00).

Used, probably with a pen cancel as best can be determined from the scan.  Opened for $169 and closed with no bids.  Stamp had good margins and was VF (July 00).

Mint with no gum, jumbo margins, looks to be in excellent condition.  Opened for $1350 and closed with no bids (July 00).

Used with pen cancel, very small margins but an expert opinion certificate was attached considering it to be a #1 not a #2.  Opened for $60 and two people bid up to $65.  Scott values a pen cancelled stamp at $275 (July 00).

Mint, described as "EF, probably regummed" and with lovely even margins opened for $1250 and closed with no bids (Aug 00).

Used, pen cancel, VF, nice margins, opened for $140 and closed with no bids (Aug 00).

Used with a postmark, three excellent margins and one very narrow, opened for $250 and closed with no bids (Aug 00).

Used with a postmark, VF-EF, opened for $250 and closed with no bids (Aug 00).

Used, with a very heavy smudged rectangular cancel and good margins.  Opened for $169 and closed with no bids (Aug 00).

Used with a dot cancel (115), and expertised on the reverse, opened for $550 and closed with no bids (Aug 00).

Used with a dot cancel, three good margins, opened for $25 and closed with no bids.  Scott values #1 for $4500 mint, $550 postally used, $375 for a postmark and pen cancel, and $265 for a pen cancel only in their 2001 catalog (Oct 00).

Used with a dot cancel, three good margins, opened for $25 and eight bidders took up to $153.50 (Oct 00).

Used, opened for $50 and four bidders took up to $153 (Nov 00).

Used, nice margins, described as "signed twice", opened for $189 and two bidders took up to $192.50 (Nov 00).

Used, three good margins, nice post mark, opened for $250 and closed with no bids (Jul 01).

Used, two good and two fair margins, opened for $3 and nine bidders took up to $76 (Jul 01).

Used with pen cancel, three good margins, opened for $140 and closed with no bids (Aug 01).

Used with very light cancel stamp, opened for $300 and closed with no bids (Aug 01).

Tied to piece with a nice dot cancel.  Opened for $300 and closed with no bids (Aug 01).

Used, reasonable margins, opened for $195 and closed with no bids (Aug 01).

A nice pen cancel on this number 2, which is valued as higher than a regular cancel in the Lobachevski catalog and by some writers, due to the quick introduction of cancel marks and the short period only of postal clerks cancelling by pen.

M, F-VF, some short perfs, opened for $400 and closed with no bids.  Scott values at $1750 (Jul 01).
